True Love

Why do guys say things to girls that break down their barriers when they don't have any intentions? Talking with my friend tonight about the guy who said all these things to her and, in the end, was not really interested, riled me up...and also made my heart break a little. Why don't people carefully consider the things that come out of their mouths? the effect that their words have on other people's lives? Sometimes it can seem so clear and so you let your guard down and start to hope, but then you discover that all the little compliments and leading statements were, in the end, just empty flattery and false pretenses, even if the guy did it subconsciously. That is not okay.

So I look to Jesus, who has been so faithfully and gently teaching me to be vulnerable, to be romanced by him, to let him love me so deeply and personally. I look to the romancer of my heart to help me put a healthy guard on it, not a stronghold that keeps any and all out, but a guard that doesn't let me be easily swayed by sweet words that don't go anywhere. May my heart be completely overwhelmed by the immense richness of his love, that I would settle not for anything less than or other than what he has for me.
